Sporting PBs Trip to Bayern Munich: A Weekend We’ll Never Forget

Some experiences in football stay with you forever. This trip to Munich with Sporting PBs was one of those rare moments where everything felt slightly unreal—in the best possible way.

We travelled to Germany on Friday 17th April, arriving in Unterföhring, just outside Munich. There was a real sense of excitement building already. We knew it was going to be a special weekend, but none of us quite understood just how special it would become.

A Quick Word on Aaron Danks

A key part of what made this experience possible was the invitation from Aaron Danks, who has worked within elite football environments at the highest level. Known for his coaching roles at top clubs and his work in player development, he has built a reputation for detail, professionalism, and connecting with players in meaningful ways on and off the pitch.

Receiving an invite from someone working at that level already made the trip feel unique—but what followed took it to another level entirely.

Friday Evening: A Surprise We Didn’t Expect

After settling into Munich on Friday evening, we received a message from Aaron inviting us to attend Bayern Munich first-team training the following day. Not only that—it was also their family day.

The reaction was instant. Shock, excitement, disbelief. It was one of those moments where you read something twice just to make sure it’s real.

That evening, we explored Munich together and ended up in a local Irish bar, listening to a live singer. It was a relaxed but electric atmosphere—knowing what was coming the next day made it hard to think about anything else.

Saturday: The Allianz Arena and a Pinch-Me Moment

Saturday started with a visit to the club shop at the iconic Allianz Arena. Walking through it, picking up souvenirs, and seeing the stadium up close added to the anticipation of the day ahead.

From there, we made our way to the training ground. The weather was perfect—bright, warm, and almost surreal given how nervous and excited we all felt.

Finding the entrance wasn’t straightforward, but eventually we were met by a gentleman who kindly walked us inside. And that was the moment everything changed.

WOW.

That was the only word that made sense.

We stepped into a world we had only ever seen on TV. The facilities, the atmosphere, the calm intensity—it was a true pinch-yourself moment. We sat down pitchside with food and drink vans around us, just taking it all in, barely speaking at times because it didn’t feel real.

Watching Bayern Train Up Close

Then the session began.

Players walked out onto the pitch—names we had grown up watching, now just metres away.

We saw stars like Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and manager Vincent Kompany leading the session.

For around 90 minutes, we watched elite-level training at incredibly close range. The intensity, detail, and speed of decision-making were on another level. Being that close made you appreciate just how fine the margins are at the top of the game.

At points, it felt like we were part of it—close enough to hear instructions, reactions, and the rhythm of the session.

Family Day on the Pitch

After training, the atmosphere shifted completely. Players stayed out, and families joined them on the pitch. Children were playing, laughing, and enjoying time with their parents in a relaxed, joyful environment.

It was a brilliant reminder that behind the elite professionalism, there are still moments of fun, family, and normality.

During this time, Ollie and I also had the chance to speak briefly with Aaron Danks and Vincent Kompany. A surreal moment in itself—chatting casually after watching a Bayern training session just metres away.

Sunday: The Game at the Allianz Arena

Sunday brought another highlight—matchday.

We made our way back to the Allianz Arena, still buzzing from the day before. The anticipation was different now; we had seen the behind-the-scenes level, and now we were about to experience the stadium in full competitive mode.

We were seated 11 rows from the front. The atmosphere inside the stadium was incredible—loud, emotional, and full of expectation.

We watched as Bayern Munich secured the league title, adding another unforgettable layer to the weekend.

Unfortunately, we had to leave slightly early to catch our flight home. It was a difficult moment—walking away knowing what we were leaving behind.

Final Reflection

Looking back, this was one of those rare football experiences that very few people ever get to have.

From the unexpected invitation, to watching elite training up close, to being inside the Allianz Arena for a title-winning moment—it was a weekend that felt almost unreal from start to finish.

More than anything, it was a reminder of how powerful football experiences can be when you’re given access to the highest level of the game.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who made it possible.
